Monks And Novices

Monks are a part of the culture and everyday life. We were privileged to visit a couple of Monasteries. The goal of every devout Buddhist is to serve in a monastery for at least 3 months. Boys from 7 up can enter. One can return to a monastery more than once but for most it is not a lifetime commitment. Girls can also serve in monasteries and are called nuns. The girls and boys are both called novices. They live in seclusion under religious vows, meditate and study.
